Pandemic Seminar Video

# 943

If you've ever watched a Fred Friendly seminar, then you know how good they can be.   Featuring a high powered panel of experts, a moderator, and an explosive topic, these panel discussions involve role playing, soul searching, and sometimes inadvertent revelations.

On June 12, the Trust For America's Health held a day long seminar in Washington D.C., and as part of the proceedings held a 2-hour seminar on pandemic influenza.    The panel is stellar.

  • Thomas H. Kean, chairman of the RWJF Board of Trustees, chairman of THK Consulting LLC, and former governor of New Jersey;
  • Lowell Weicker, Jr., president of the board of the TFAH and former three-term U.S. senator and governor from Connecticut;
  • Anthony Fauci, M.D., director of the Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases of the National Institutes of Health;
  • Rajeev Venkayya, M.D., special assistant to the president for biodefense at the White House Homeland Security Council;
  • Rick Kaplan, executive producer of CBS Evening News;
  • Susan Dentzer, health correspondent of The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer;
  • Shannon Cheffet, M.D., chief medical officer of Mountain Health and Community Services of Campo, Calif.;
  • Gail C. Christopher, D.N., vice president of the Office of Health, Women, and Families and Director of the Health Policy Institute of The Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies;
  • Darrell Darnell, director of the District of Columbia Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency;
  • Joseph Petro, executive vice president and managing director of CitiGroup, and;
  • Sandra Shewry, director of the Department of Health Services of California.

Moderated by Jeff Greenfield, with Lowell Weicker playing the part of the President, and Dr. Fauci and Dr. Venkyya as his advisors, the panel explores how a pandemic might play out, and our national response to it.

Two hours isn't enough time to do more than scratch the surface of the issues, but even so, this is a well done and important seminar. Entitled  Pandemic Flu: The Virus That Could Change the World,  this video is well worth 2 hours of your time.
