Declan Butler On The Bird Flu Research Controversy

# 6021

While we await a ruling from the National Science Advisory Board for Biosecurity (NSABB) over the publication of a pair of controversial research projects using the H5N1 virus, Declan Butler over at Nature.com has an excellent overview of the restrictions (and sometimes, lack thereof) on influenza researchers in laboratories around the world.

My thanks to Helen Branswell for the head’s up on this via Twitter.

Declan Butler, senior reporter for Nature and a blogger in his own right,  was one of the first journalists to begin covering the avian flu threat back in 2004.
