7.6 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Southern Mexico

Although the magnitude has been bouncing around (7.6 – 7.9) and may yet be adjusted again by the USGS, what was obviously strong seismic event has struck southern Mexico near the town of Ometepec (pop. 55,000), in the state of Guerrero. 

 

This is about 115 miles from Acapulco. There are no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

While local tsunami or tidal changes may be reported, as of now there are no Pacific wide Tsunami warnings issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.
