On Saturday, in China: MOA Reports 2 New ASF Outbreaks (Inner Mongolia, Henan Province), we saw the first outbreak of African Swine Fever from Inner Mongolia, making it the 7th Chinese province and/or territory to report the disease since early August.

That first outbreak was in Abag Banner, a county under the administration of Xilin Gol League.  Today, we've a second report - this time from Zhenglan Banner (also in Xilin Gol League) - some 210 km south and east of Inner Mongolia's first outbreak.

The Information Office of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs released on the day that a pig swine epidemic occurred in the Zhenglan Banner of Xilin Gol League in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

On the morning of September 15, the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region discovered that the pigs in the Xilin Gol League were dead due to unexplained death. On September 17, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs received a report from the China Center for Animal Disease Control and Prevention. The Chinese Animal Health and Epidemiology Center (National Center for Animal Diseases and Diseases) confirmed that the above-mentioned pigs died of unexplained deaths. As of September 16, the farmer had 159 live pigs, with 14 heads and 8 deaths.

Immediately after the outbreak, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs sent a steering group to the local area. The local government has started the emergency response mechanism as required, and adopted measures such as blockade, culling, harmless treatment, disinfection, etc., to treat all the sick and culled pigs harmlessly. At the same time, all live pigs and susceptible animals and products are prohibited from entering or leaving the blockade. At present, the above epidemic has been effectively disposed of.

Because of some discrepancies between OIE reports and announcements from China's Ministry of Agriculture, the exact number of ASF outbreaks over the past 6 weeks in China is becoming harder to pin down, although that number appears to be somewhere near 20.
Whatever the actual number, the incidence and geographic spread of outbreaks continues to increase, suggesting ASF has already established a pretty solid presence in China.
