Nobody Does It Better

# 391

Explain public health issues and the science behind bird flu, that is. And I'm speaking of the Reveres at Effect Measure.

Today they explain how so many suspected bird flu cases can turn out to be nothing more than seasonal influenza, or ILI's (influenza-like Illnesses). Not only is it an educational and entertaining read, it may reduce your anxiety levels a bit when you see reports of a hundred `suspected' cases in Indonesia or Thailand awaiting tests.

It's become a mantra on this blog to remind my readers that suspected cases do not equal H5N1 infections, and that most will turn out to be influenza, Dengue, Malaria, or something other than bird flu. But I defer to the Reveres, experts in this field, to explain why. They are much better at it than I.

And as far as both of us invoking the spirit of Claude Rains over night in our blogs?

Pure coincidence, I assure you.
