From CDC Grand Rounds The Growing Threat of Multidrug-Resistant Gonorrhea

# 6847

A topic that Maryn McKenna (and to a lesser extent, this blog) have addressed in recent years has been increases in reports of Drug Resistant Gonorrhea from around the the world.

Last August, in  Referral: McKenna On Resistant Gonorrhea, Maryn looked at the CDC’s new guidelines on the treatment of gonorrhea, making the oral antibiotic cefixamine no longer the first line drug of choice, and substituting injectable ceftriaxone along with oral doses of either azithromycin or doxycycline.

Earlier Maryn also wrote Drug-Resistant Gonorrhea: How We Lost Track and The Clap Came Back: Multidrug-Resistant Gonorrhea.

A couple of my offerings include:

Going, Going, Gonorrhea

Today Maryn is back with the details of a Toronto STD clinic that has documented a disturbing trend in the number of `treatment failures’ they’ve seen.
