For the third time this week (see here and here) today the OIE reports additional outbreaks of H5N8 in South Africa. Specifically, two commercial poultry operations in the southernmost Western Cape Province. The larger of the two, involving 140,000 birds, is in the City of Cape town.
This week we've seen 4 new poultry outbreaks, and 3 more detections in wild or non-poultry birds. This brings the total number of reported outbreaks in South Africa since June 22nd to 24; 16 outbreaks in poultry, and 8 in wild or non-poultry birds.
