The last OIE avian flu notification in poultry that I can find from Afghanistan was roughly 10 years ago (see 25/05/09 Final report), which described 9 outbreaks of H5N1 in 2007. Reporting and surveillance in this part of the world is, however, spotty at best.
Earlier this month, however, the OIE was notified of 14 dead Rooks (ravens) near Khost that tested positive for HPAI H5.Today we've a new OIE notification for HPAI H5 (subtype not determined) in two poultry outbreaks near Kabul, roughly 100 miles to the north and west of the first incident.
