China MOA: ASF In Hunan, Jilin & For the 1st Time - Jiangxi & Fujian Provinces

African Swine Fever continues its inexorable spread in China, with four provinces reporting outbreaks this morning,  including the first occurrence in the southern provinces of Jiangxi & Fujian
Additionally, we have a recurrence in Hunan Province, and an outbreak very near the the North Korean border in the Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture located in Jilin Province
As ASF continues to jump advance across the eastern half of china the FAO's warning (see FAO: African swine fever (ASF) threatens to spread from China to other Asian countries) raises grave concerns from Vietnam and Laos in the south, to the Koreas in the north, and Japan to the east, that African Swine fever could soon evolve into a regional crisis.

According to Korean (and Japanese) media reports overnight, Agricultural Ministers from Japan-China-Korean will meet in Beijing later this week for a  3-day African Swine fever joint response meeting. 

Meanwhile we've two reports from China's MOA on ASF outbreaks in 4 provinces, including 1st occurrences in both Jiangxi & Fujian.

A case of African swine fever occurred in Wuyuan City, Hunan Province, Longjing City, Jilin Province, and Wannian County, Jiangxi Province.

The Information Office of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs was released on November 8, and the African swine fever epidemic occurred in Wuyuan City of Hunan Province, Longjing City of Jilin Province and Wannian County of Jiangxi Province.


At 11:00 on November 8, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Areas received a report from the China Animal Disease Prevention and Control Center and was diagnosed by the China Center for Animal Health and Epidemiology (National Center for Animal Disease Research), and:

  • a farmer in Louyuan City, Loudi City, Hunan Province. Outbreak of African swine fever. The farmer has 9 pigs, 4 sickness and 1 death;
  • a farmer from Wannian County, Shangrao City, Jiangxi Province has detected the African swine fever epidemic. The farmer has 154 pigs, 49 sickness and 49 deaths;
  • Jilin An African swine fever epidemic occurred in a farm area in Longjing City, Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture. The farm has 930 pigs, 144 cases and 144 deaths.
Immediately after the outbreak, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs sent a steering group to the local area. The local government has started the emergency response mechanism as required, and adopted measures such as blockade, culling, harmless treatment, disinfection, etc., to treat all the sick and culled pigs harmlessly. At the same time, all pigs and their products are prohibited from being transferred out of the blockade, and pigs are prohibited from being transported into the blockade. At present, the above epidemic has been effectively disposed of.

At 16:00 on November 8, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Areas received a report from the China Center for Animal Disease Control and Prevention, and was diagnosed by the China Center for Animal Health and Epidemiology (National Center for Animal Disease Research). A farm in the Chengxiang District of Putian City, Fujian Province was isolated. African swine fever. The farm has 4,521 live pigs, with 85 diseases and 85 deaths.

Immediately after the outbreak, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs sent a steering group to the local area.
