Saudi MOH: 3 MERS Cases (2 Deceased)

#14,091

As we enter the 4th week of Ramadan the Saudi MOH reports 3 new MERS case, one to finish out Epi Week #21 (n=3), and two to start off Epi Week# 22.

First, reported on the 23rd, we have a 69 y.o. male, listed as a primary case with camel exposure.  This is the 5th MERS case reported from Riyadh since the first of May.

Today the Saudi MOH reports on two more MERS cases, both listed as already deceased - a worrisome sign - as that can sometimes mean that a MERS diagnosis and isolation was delayed and that others may have been inadvertently exposed.
  • The first is a 65 year-old male from Riyadh, with no known camel contact.  This becomes the 6th case this month from the Saudi Capital.
  • Second, an 80 y.o. male from Madinah (aka Medina), again with no known camel contact.

For the next week or so we'll be watching for any reports of secondary infections in both of the regions.
