FAO: Bhutan Reports H5N1 In Domestic Birds

image

# 9946

Given the amount of H5N1 activity being reported by neighboring India (see H5N1 In Telangana Poultry and Watching India (Again) . . . .), and scattered reports coming out of China, it isn’t a terrible surprise to see a report emerging from the tiny country of Bhutan sandwiched between the two on the eastern edge of the Himalayas.

Bhutan first reported H5N1 in 2010 (see OIE Immediate notification), and while not frequently mentioned as Nepal to its west, has reported outbreaks in 2012 and 2013.

After a couple of years where the H5N1 virus has taken a backseat to H7N9, we are suddenly seeing it (and other HPAI H5 viruses) on the move once more.

This from the FAO/EMPRES.
