OIE Confirms HPAI H7N9 In Inner Mongolia

UPDATED:  No sooner had I posted this update and the OIE published another HPAI H7N9 update  Highly pathogenic avian influenza, China (People's Rep. of), (Follow-up report No. 5), detailing 3 more outbreaks; 1 in Inner Mongolia, 1 in Guangxi Province, and 1 in Fujian province.  All three provinces have previously reported outbreaks.

We've been following the steady northward expansion of the newly emerged HPAI version of H7N9, since it first appeared last January in Guangdong province.  Up until a few months ago, all H7N9 detections have been LPAI (in birds), despite causing significant morbidity and mortality in humans.
Last Friday, in Inner Mongolia Reports Large Poultry Die Off - HPAI H7N9 Suspected, we saw what appeared to be its northernmost appearance to date.

Today the OIE confirms this outbreak as HPAI, in the following notification

Hohhot is the capital city of Inner Mongolia, and is located 120 miles north and east of Ordos, where the first two human cases were reported from Inner Mongolia two weeks ago.
