Azeri Press : Bird Flu `Suspect' Dies

# 413

Tests, apparently, are pending on this one, but the press is raising a red flag. Premature perhaps, the last `suspected' case there proved negative. But we'll see.

In any event, a tip of the hat to Dutchie at CE for finding this one.

[ 06 Feb. 2007 11:01 ]

Resident of Azerbaijani region of Neftchala 38-year old Zamina Zeynalova, who was suspected of contracting bird flu died at the Scientific Institute of Lungs Diseases at about 02.00 tonight, APA reports.

Zeynalova was hospitalized on February 2. Though she was diagnosed double-sided pneumonia, the suspicion of H5N1 virus still remains. Head physician of Scientific Research Lungs Diseases Khayyam Mammadov told the APA that the patient has not been proved to have died of bird flu but double-sided pneumonia.

The head physician said that Zeynalova was in critical condition when she was hospitalized and the treatment turned out ineffective.

The experts of State Veterinary Service on February 3 monitored bird flu in the village where Zamina Zeynalova lived. No mass death of poultries and fowls were detected. Despite the fact, samples of poultries in the village have been sent to Republic Veterinary Laboratory. The results of the test will be made public soon. /APA/
