Crawford Kilian, over at Crof's Blog, posted that he received word from a reader of a possible outbreak of bird flu in Laos, and is asking his readers if anyone has information from that region, if they would forward it.
Three points here.
First, if you aren't a regular reader of Crof's blog, you should be. His site is one of the oldest, and finest on avian flu.
Second, if you have any information on the situation in Laos, please go to his post on the subject, and relay it to him. He assures that your anonymity will be protected.
And third, you, the readers of blogs out there, have the ability to be the eyes and ears on the ground for bloggers. We nearly all have email addresses on our sites, or a way for you to post a message. If you have a tip, or information, nearly all of us would be grateful to receive it.
I do receive emails, and unless I'm given express permission, I don't print the information in them. If I receive a blind tip, one I can't corroborate but find credible, and I have permission to use it, I would present it as such, an uncorroborated tip.
The blogosphere has the potential to become an important newsgathering force. I have readers in more than two dozen countries. With your help, I can do a better job following the avian flu story.
