Bird flu in Suffolk 'is deadly strain'

03 February 2007 | 11:19

THE bird flu discovered at a Suffolk poultry farm is HN51, the deadly strain of the disease, it emerged this morning.

The EU Commission confirmed the news this morning following the death of hundreds of turkeys to the Bernard Matthews factory in Holton, near Halesworth.

Further updates will be posted on the EADT website throughout the weekend.

This is expected to result in a massive culling operation, and resumed concerns over the biosecurity of poultry operations in the UK.
