One Patient Bird Flu Also was killed the Lalu Week

May 13, 2007

The report on the Reporter Kompas Aufrida Wismi Warastri

Medan, Kompas -- Apart From NY NS (26) the bird flu patient who died in Medan, on Saturday (12/5) at dawn, still had casualties was killed resulting from the virus H5N1 this, that is NY A (31) the resident Pekanbaru Riau that died in Medan, last week to be precise last Thursday (3/5).

Casualties blew out the last breath in RS GE and have been buried without being known by the public. Beforehand casualties were treated in a hospital in Pekanbaru, Riau before being brought by his family to Medan.

Prof Dr Luhur Soeroso, the doctor who treated the patient said results of the PCR test that stated the positive patient suffered bird flu were just accepted by the doctor from the Department of the Jakarta Health two days after the patient died.

Convoluted and mangled by translation software, this report refers to two different patients.  A (age 31), who died on May 3rd, and NS (age 26) who appears to have died on Saturday Morning.

The earlier death would appear to be that of a trader (sales clerk) named Ani who reportedly had no contact with poultry, which we reported on here last week.  An epidemiological investigation was promised, but we've seen nothing new on that.

From a different media report that came across the wires earlier today, we learned that NS was a 26 year old woman, who was 16 weeks pregnant, and that she had been diagnosed with H5N1.
