Vietnam Records 44th Death From H5N1

Thirteen days after being admitted to the Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Hanoi with avian flu, Phan Thi Xuyen, 28,  died.   Her's is the 2nd death in the past 2 weeks reported from Vietnam.

Vietnamese woman dies of bird flu, second death in two weeks

 

HANOI, Vietnam (AP) -- A 28-year-old woman died of bird flu on Thursday, hospital officials said, becoming the second person to die from the virus in Vietnam in two weeks.

 

Phan Thi Xuyen died at the Hanoi Hospital of Tropical Diseases, 13 days after she was admitted with symptoms of the H5N1 bird flu virus, said Nguyen Hong Ha, deputy hospital director.

 

Xuyen became ill in her home province of Ha Nam, 60 kilometers (37 miles) south of Hanoi, after she came into contact with sick poultry.

 

Vietnam had reported no bird flu deaths from Nov. 2005 until June 10, when a man from Ha Tay province died at a Hanoi hospital.

 

Xuyen is the 44th person to die of bird flu in Vietnam
