Not a happy story to return to from my vacation.  A 6-year-old boy has died of H5N1 in Indonesia over the weekend.

Indonesian boy dies of bird flu, bringing Indonesia's total fatalities to 81

JAKARTA, Indonesia (AP) -- An Indonesian boy died of bird flu, bringing the death toll to 81 in the only country regularly logging human fatalities from the virus, a health official said Monday.

The 6-year-old boy died Sunday at a hospital in the capital of Jakarta, said Rumizar Rusin of the Health Ministry's bird flu information center.

The boy fell sick on July 1 and was admitted to the hospital four days later, he said.

Rusin said officials were still investigating how the boy contracted the H5N1 virus.

Most human case of the virus have been traced to contact with infected birds.

The latest fatality brings the death toll from bird flu in Indonesia to 81 out of 102 cases.

A hat tip to Crofsblog for setting the record straight on the tally's printed in the Jakarta Post  last weekend erroneously showing 90 deaths out of 111 cases.
