Saudi Arabia Reports Fresh Outbreaks In Birds

Saudi Arabia's bird flu woes continue with a 14th location now reporting the H5N1 virus.   Culling continues amid assurances that these outbreaks represent no danger to the public through the food supply. 

 

 

 

 

New bird flu case discovered in Saudi Arabia -- Agriculture Ministry

RIYADH, Nov 28 (KUNA) -- The Saudi Ministry of Agriculture announced on Wednesday the emergence of a new high-intensity avian influenza (H5N1) last night in a project to produce eggs in the area of Alshaba of governorate of Al-Kharj south of Riyadh.

 


The ministry said in a statement released by the Saudi Press Agency that the project consisting of 16 fold and 216,000 birds, adding that all preventive measures have been taken in coordination with other concerned bodies to execute all birds in the project through proper technical methods.

 

The ministry asked poultry producers and farm owners to intensify the application of preventive and precautionary measures to ensure the non-arrival of migratory birds into barns, feed warehouses, drinking or cooling water.

 

It invited entrepreneurs, citizens and residents to cooperate with the ministry and immediately report any case of suspected bird death.

 

The ministry said that the 14 infected cases that have been announced since November 12 did not pose any danger or harm to the consumption of poultry and eggs produced by poultry projects in Saudi Arabia, which have always been subject to monitoring and oversight. (end) ud.tg KUNA 281756 Nov 07NNNN
