Indonesia: Suspected Bird Flu Fatality

After a very quiet summer, suddenly we are beginning to see reports of bird-flu (or suspected bird flu) activity again in Indonesia.

 

 

In recent days the Indonesian media has reported on several large bird die-offs,  the hospitalization and isolation of three patients from Lampung (no test results yet), and this morning several reports on a fatality suspected to be due to the H5N1 virus.

Indonesian man allegedly dies of bird flu

An Indonesian chicken butcher has allegedly died of bird flu on Monday after being hospitalized for two days.

 

Director of Hasan Sadikin Hospital Cissy Rachiana Prawira said that Dadan Hariansyah had suffered from breathing failure due to the pneumonia had infected his lungs.

 


"We have sent a blood test this morning but has yet to receive the result of the test," she said.

 


Doctor Uun Sunardi said that Dadan had been declared as a suspect based on a thorax photo indicating his acute pneumonia.

 


"He has a potency to get infected by the disease as he works as a butcher," he said.

 


Dadan's father, Ukun Sobana said that his son had suffered from fever since Thursday and brought him to the Sartika Asih Hospital on Sunday afternoon.

 


"After taking a thorax picture, my son was referred to the Hasan Sadikin Hospital on night," he said. (ewd)
