# 2690

On top of the two cases reported by the Bird Flu Information Corner, and posted here yesterday, we have another media report of a suspected H5N1 bird flu  infection from Indonesia today.

This report appears in the Jakarta Post.

Once again, these are suspected cases.   Lab results, if and when they come back, may not be released by the Indonesian Health Ministry for weeks.

Ela, a 35-year old resident of Suka Imut village, Kuningan, West Java, has been treated at Gunung Jati Hospital in Cirebon, for a suspected case of bird flu, Antara news agency reported.

She was admitted to the hospital on Thursday night, after being first treated at a local hospital in Kuningan. She was immediately put in the bird flu isolation unit.

Gunung Jati Hospital spokesperson Haris said Friday that Ela was currently being treated and had been given Tamiflu, an anti- influenza drug.

Haris said the hospital sent a sample of the patient's blood to be examined by the Health Ministry in Jakarta.

According to Yudi, Ela's neighbor who took her to the hospital, she came down with a high fever after four of her chickens died. (dre)
