China: Three New H7N9 Cases Reported

Two separate reports this morning suggest that the number of persons infected with the H7N9 virus in China has increased to at least 24, with two new cases reported in Jiangsu Province, and 1 (fatal) case being reported by the media in Shanghai.

 

While I’ve not been able to locate an official statement on the Shanghai fatality, we do have this bare-bones media report via RTHK news in Hong Kong on this 7th fatal infection.

Mainland media reported that Shanghai confirmed a human infection of H7N9 avian influenza, has died.

 

The patient is a 64-year-old man, has been retired. Four close contacts of the patient's medical observation has been implemented, and currently does not appear abnormal.

 

Far, a total of 11 confirmed cases of the H7N9 avian flu infection, in which five people were killed.

New case of human infection of H7N9 avian flu cases in the city today

As of 17:00, April 8, 2011, the city has new confirmed cases of human infection of H7N9 avian influenza cases, after she died.

Up to now, Shanghai were found 11 cases of human infection with the H7N9 avian influenza confirmed cases, including five cases of death, another six cases being treated in isolation into one of them has basically recovered. Patients Qiumou, female, 25 years old, the Zhenjiang City Runzhou district people, unemployed. March 30 incidence, diagnosis and treatment to a hospital in Zhenjiang City. April 8 at noon, the provincial expert group diagnosed cases of human infection of H7N9 avian influenza confirmed cases. Currently, patients in critical condition. After investigation, the close contacts of the case has a total of 18 people currently no abnormality.

 

In addition, at noon on April 8, the provincial expert group consultation, exclude one cases (Suzhou Wujiang District Zhao) human infection with the H7N9 avian flu suspected cases.

 

Provincial Health Department is organizing experts to make every effort to rescue cases, to implement various epidemic prevention and control measures.
