The slow trickle of MERS announces continues out of Saudi Arabia, and while a bit less activity than we saw in October and November, new cases are still announced every few days.
Taif, Mecca, and Riyadh have produced the most cases over the past few months, but the southern town of Najran – near the Yemen border – has also yielded several recent cases as well. The most recent on December 30th.
Today’s case - a 69 year-old male listed in stable condition – has a history of pre-existing illness, but has none of the other usual risk MERS factors (animal exposure, nosocomial exposure, exposure to confirmed case, etc.).
Additionally, the Saudi MOH announced the death of a previously announced case, a 70 year-old from Dammam.
