The Saudi MOH website has been lagging behind in posting MERS cases the past couple of days, but has caught up this morning, and has announced 5 new cases.
Curiously, the link says `9 new cases', but the graphics say otherwise.
Once again we see the ongoing cluster in Hafuf (aka `Hofuf', `Hafoof', etc.) figure prominently in today's report.
Over the past six week we've seen roughly 2 dozen cases emerge from that city, first in the form of a family cluster, and then in what appears to be a major nosocomial outbreak (see yesterday's WHO MERS Update - Saudi Arabia ).
We are now less than two weeks from the start of the Holy month of Ramadan, when hundreds of thousands of religious pilgrims will visit Saudi Arabia. Most will stay a week or so, and then return to their home countries.
With at least low levels of MERS activity reported across KSA this summer, public health officials around the world must remain vigilant for the possibility of seeing imported cases.
