For the first time in 50 days, the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Health is reporting no new MERS cases anywhere in the country, however roughly 3 dozen cases remain under care or in home isolation.
While obviously good news, in the past we’ve seen a lag of up to a week between when a patient has tested positive, and when that case was publically announced (see HERE and HERE).
There are currently 2 million people – including 1.4 million international visitors – taking part in this year’s Hajj. While this reduction in MERS cases is welcome news, no one will be heaving a sigh of relief until at least two weeks after the Hajj is ended and no exported cases are reported.
