Saudi MOH: 1 Primary MERS Case In Abha

#11,049

The uptick in MERS cases continues with the 11th case this month, this time in Abha - the capital of Asir province.  The patient is a 53 year old male in critical condition.  Other than being listed as a primary case, we have no details on his route of exposure.

`Primary cases’ are those that occur in the community when there is no known exposure to a health care facility or to a known human case. Some may have had zoonotic (i.e. camel)  exposure - but for many the source of infection is unknown.

Over the past 3 years, roughly 40% of Saudi cases are listed as either `primary’ or as from an undetermined origin.
