OIE Notification Of HPAI H5 In The Philippines
#12,680
We've an OIE notification now available on the HPAI H5 outbreak reported earlier today (see Philippines: Culling Ordered After First Detection Of HPAI H5 Avian Flu). Information remains limited, and the details are subject to change as the investigation progresses, but today's filing lists July 24th as the `start' of this outbreak.
In this part of the world, the `usual suspects' would be H5N1, H5N8, or H5N6 - but as we've seen often with the very promiscuous Asian lineage HPAI H5 viruses - they can easily spin off other subtypes through reassortment with local LPAI avian viruses.
Hopefully we'll get clarification on the subtype, lineage, and the extent of its spread in the next few days.
