ASF: China Reports New Outbreak In Guangxi Province

With the exception of the announcement last weekend by the Ministry of Public Security of hundreds of arrests for crimes surrounding the cover up, and illegal sale of African Swine Fever infected pigs, China has been silent about new outbreaks since the 27th of last month. 
Three weeks ago, Guangxi Province - the last ASF hold out in Southern China - reported their first outbreaks on two farms involving 23,000+ pigs in Beihai City.
Today, China's MOA reports a new outbreak, this time in Guigang City, about 180 km to the north of the previous outbreak.

The Information Office of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs was released on March 7th, and an African swine fever epidemic occurred in Gangnan District, Guigang City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

On March 7, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs received a report from the China Animal Disease Prevention and Control Center, which was diagnosed by the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Animal Disease Prevention and Control Center, and an African swine fever epidemic occurred in a farm in Gangnan District, Guigang City.
Up to now, the farm has 3,172 live pigs, with 24 heads and 20 deaths.
Immediately after the outbreak, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs sent a steering group to the local area. The local government has started the emergency response mechanism according to the requirements, and adopted measures such as blockade, culling, harmless treatment, disinfection, etc., to treat all the sick and culled pigs harmlessly. At the same time, all pigs and their products are prohibited from being transferred out of the blockade, and pigs are prohibited from being transported into the blockade. At present, the above measures have been implemented.


Despite the intermittent reporting from China,  Taiwan's BAPHIQ (Bureau of Animal Plant Health Inspection & Quarantine) continues to report a growing influx of ASF contaminated products being brought into their country by travelers from the Mainland.
Ongoing monitoring of the border in mainland China pork products again detected one case of African swine fever virus gene

African swine fever Central Disaster Response Center today (7), said that once again the Chinese mainland pork products tested positive one cases of African swine fever virus gene, reached a total of 30 cases, respectively, on October 1, 107 cases (positive detection rate 0.6%), Nov. 2 (1.1%), December 4 (2.2%), 108, January 11 (6.2 %), February 11 patients (8.0%), March 1 (5.5%), the detection rate is still rising trend. 

 
Response Center said that the first 30 cases are detected by the anti-Keelung branch office in Taipei quarantine station on February 20 samples from a passenger aboard my nationality round Lina Yan disposal of the port of entry of meat from Taipei Pingtan, Fujian Province in mainland China. Response Center called on the people, to travel abroad do not carry immigration animal and plant products, especially meat, and do not net purchase of foreign meat sent to Taiwan, and offenders will be subject to heavy penalties, do not defy the law.
