Japan MAFF: 25th Farm Outbreak Of CSF

#14,110

While China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Mongolia, and North Korea battle the recent arrival of African Swine Fever (ASF), Japan finds itself combating a different swine virus - Classical Swine Fever (CSF) - which arrived unexpectedly in Gifu Prefecture 9 months ago.
Both diseases are highly contagious, and can be economically devastating for pork producers, but neither disease poses a direct human health threat.
Over the first 6 months, Japan reported just 10 farms affected. But since early March we've seen that pace pick up, with 15 farms infected over the past 12 weeks. The number of CSF-positive wild boar detected has similarly increased over the past 3 months.

Details on the 25th farm affected come from this translated report from Japan's Ministry of Agriculture (MAFF).
