Japan MAFF: 31st Farm Outbreak Of Classical Swine Fever

#14,178

While China, Vietnam, and a host of other Asian nations are furiously combating African Swine Fever (ASF), Japan continues to wage war against Classical Swine Fever (CSF), which re-appeared last September after an absence of 26 years.

For the second time this week (see Monday's report) Japan's MAFF is reporting a farm outbreak of CSF, this time in Gifu Prefecture. This is the 6th outbreak in the past 28 days, and the 31st overall.
CSF, while similar in appearance and impact to African Swine Fever (ASF), is caused by a different virus. Both, however, are highly contagious among pigs, and can be economically devastating for pork producers, but neither disease poses a direct human health threat.
