Japan MAFF Confirms 50th Farm Outbreak Of Classical Swine Fever (Aichi Prefecture)

#14,533

Classical Swine fever began spreading in Japan in September of 2018 - first in Gifu Prefecture, and then in Aichi - and in the past 8 months has expanded to another 10 prefectures in central Japan.

While similar to African Swine Fever (ASF), CSF is caused by a different virus (genus Pestivirus, family Flaviviridae). Neither pose a direct threat to human health, although both can be devastating to the swine industry.
Most of the recent outbreaks have been from these new regions, with the last farm outbreak from Gifu Prefecture reported in September, and the last from Aichi on August 30th
Today however, Japan's MAFF reports on a farm outbreak in Aichi Prefecture.
