Japan MOH: Another 41 Positive Coronavirus Cases Aboard Cruise Ship

Three days ago 3700 passengers and crew of the Diamond Princess were ordered quarantined aboard ship in Yokohama, Japan after one of its passengers disembarked on Jan 25th in Hong Kong and was subsequently diagnosed as being infected with the novel coronavirus. 
Over the the past 48 hours of testing, 61 passengers and crew (out of 273 test results) have been found to be infected, and have been moved off the ship and into isolation.

New Cases of Coronavirus on Diamond Princess (Yokohama)
Princess Cruises has been notified by the Japanese Ministry of Health that an additional 41 people from the targeted screening samples onboard Diamond Princess have tested positive for Coronavirus.
Further information on nationalities of these new cases will be forth coming.
We expect that local public health authorities will be disembarking these guests today for transport to local hospitals immediately.
The health and safety of our guests and crew remains our top priority. We continue to work closely with the Japan Ministry of Health on all protocols and procedures while ensuring the comfort and well-being of our guests.

New coronavirus infection confirmed on a cruise ship calling at Yokohama Port

The cruise ship Diamond Princess, which arrived at Yokohama Port on February 3, is undergoing quarantine at sea, but 41 out of 171 new test results for the new coronavirus have been identified. As coronavirus positive was confirmed, we will send it to a medical institution with an infectious disease ward today with the cooperation of Tokyo, Saitama, Chiba, Kanagawa and Shizuoka prefectures. A total of 61 out of 273 people tested positive.

Those who are transported include elderly people and foreign nationals, and it is necessary to take measures that take into account physical conditions. The press is requested to give special consideration to coverage of this matter.
The BBC reports that those now hospitalized with the novel coronavirus are citizens of:
  • Japan: 28 people
  • US: 11
  • Australia, Canada: 7
  • China: 3
  • UK, New Zealand, Taiwan, Philippines, Argentina: 1

For the remaining 3600 aboard, quarantine is expected to last until at least February 19th.
