Based on the number of exported cases from Iran over the last week (100+), the size of the COVID-19 epidemic in Iran likely includes tens of thousands of infections, but officially only 1501 have been laboratory confirmed.
Over the past 48 hours we've seen the number of cases reported nearly triple, and the number of deaths increase from 43 deaths to 66, although there are unconfirmed reports suggesting the death toll is much higher.
While it may not fully reflect the situation there, here are the latest numbers from Iran.

The Ministry of Health announced that:

The ministry's deputy health minister said: With 22 laboratories operating in the country, our statistics have been updated, as the Pasteur Institute lab is capable of conducting 1,200 tests daily.

The Deputy Health Minister explained that 22 laboratories are operating nationwide. With 22 laboratories operating in the country, our statistics have been updated, as the Pasteur Institute lab is capable of conducting 1,200 tests daily. Fortunately, we have succeeded in updating the test.

He added: In these laboratories, screening tests are performed and if confirmed, they will be treated as positive cases. But in order to terminate these tests, the samples will be sent to Tehran and we will announce definitive tests. This is because the statistics that were announced are final, and the statistics in the provinces are not considered cases of disease.
