Poultry farms in the southern half of Japan continue to take a drubbing from HPAI H5, with the announcement today of the 17th farm outbreak since early November, this time in a new (and 6th) Prefecture; Hiroshima.

This from Japan's Ministry of Environment:

Confirmation of pseudo-patients with highly pathogenic avian influenza in Hiroshima Prefecture (17th domestic poultry case)

On December 7, 2nd year of Reiwa, there was a report that a pseudo-patient with highly pathogenic avian influenza, which was the 17th case in domestic poultry, was confirmed at an egg-laying chicken farm in Mihara City, Hiroshima Prefecture. In response to this report, we will strengthen the monitoring of wild birds by designating the area within a radius of 10 km around the outbreak farm as a priority area for wild bird monitoring.

1. 1. Background

December 6th (Sun)

・ Hiroshima Prefecture received a report that the number of dead chickens had increased, requested the farm to refrain from moving, and conducted an on-site inspection of the farm.

・ A simple influenza test was conducted on the chicken and the result was positive.

December 7th (Monday)

・ As a result of genetic testing of the chicken, it was confirmed that it was a H5 subtype and was a pseudo-patient with highly pathogenic avian influenza.

Additional details are being posted on the Hiroshima Prefecture Website:

This will be the first outbreak in this prefecture.

Along with this, at 5 o'clock on the same day, the Hiroshima Prefecture Crisis Countermeasures Headquarters (countermeasures against highly pathogenic avian influenza) was established and a meeting of members of the Hiroshima Prefecture Crisis Countermeasures Headquarters was held.
Even if you eat chicken eggs and chicken, you will not be infected with highly pathogenic avian influenza.
