CDC: Two COVID-Related COCA Calls (Tues & Thurs) This Week

#15,854

This afternoon (March 9th) and again on Thursday afternoon (March 11th), the CDC will hold a one-hour  COCA (Clinician Outreach & Communication Activity) Call to update and inform clinicians on two COVID vaccine related topics.

COCA Call: March 9, 2021: What Every Clinician Should Know about COVID-19 Vaccine Safety and Effectiveness and How to Address Patient Questions and Concerns

COCA Call: March 11, 2021: The Role of Telehealth in Expanding Access to Healthcare During the COVID-19 Pandemic: Considerations for Vaccine Uptake and Monitoring for Adverse Events

While the March 11th webinar has been on the schedule for at least a week, today's session was only recently announced.  Brief descriptions of each presentation follow.

TODAY:

Overview

COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective. More than 50 million people in the United States have received COVID-19 vaccines, and these vaccines have undergone the most intensive safety monitoring in U.S. history. This monitoring includes using both established and new safety monitoring systems to make sure that COVID-19 vaccines are safe.

During this COCA call, clinicians will receive an update on COVID-19 vaccine safety and effectiveness for the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines, including data on COVID-19 vaccine safety in pregnancy. Clinicians will also get information about the v-safe COVID-19 Pregnancy Registry, which collects additional health information that helps CDC monitor the safety of COVID-19 vaccines in people who are pregnant.

As more people in the U.S. become eligible to receive COVID-19 vaccines, clinicians are likely to hear increasing questions and concerns from patients who want more information about the safety and effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines. It is natural for people to have these questions, and clinicians play a critical role in answering them. In this call, clinicians will learn effective strategies for responding to safety and efficacy questions they may hear, and in doing so, promote confidence, communication, and update of COVID-19 vaccines.
