Yesterday the CDC's advisory committee ACIP finished up a two-day meeting on the proposed authorization of a booster shot for specific `at risk' populations who had previously received two doses of the the Pfizer mRNA COVID vaccine.
After an often contentious debate (see CIDRAP's Following FDA, ACIP recommends COVID-19 booster shots), the committee approved 3 of 4 specific groups (65 and older, those 50 to 64 with underlying medical conditions, and those 18 to 49 based on individual benefit and risk given underlying medical conditions).
The final decision lies with CDC Director Rochelle Walensky, MD, MPH, who is expected to accept these recommendations, possibly as soon as today.
For now, these recommendations only apply to recipients of the Pfizer vaccine, meaning those of us who received the Moderna or J&J vaccine will have to wait a bit longer for their data to be submitted and analyzed.
Anticipating the CDC's concurrence, the CDC will hold a COCA Call next Tuesday (Sept 28th) with information for clinicians on the COVID Booster program. I'll have a brief postscript following the break.

ACIP Meetings usually provide us with excellent slide presentations, and yesterday's meeting was no exception. More than 200 slides, across 15 PDF presentations, are available for your perusal. While I've only had time to briefly review a few of them, one in particular stuck out as worth recommending.
