CDC Adds 7 Countries to Level 4 - Avoid Travel Advisories Due to COVID-19

#16,393

While we await a better analysis of the recently emerged Omicron variant, the more immediate pandemic problem remains Delta, which continues to surge in many places around the globe. During the month of November the CDC elevated travel advisories to LEVEL 4 - Avoid Travel to no less than 2 dozen countries (see here, and here).

Yesterday the CDC added 7 more countries to that growing list:

A Presidential Proclamation established restrictions on the entry of certain travelers into the United States in an effort to slow the introduction of the new Omicron variant of the virus that causes COVID-19. The Omicron variant was classified a variant of concern by the World Health Organization.

With specific exceptions, this Presidential Proclamation suspends the entry into the United States, as immigrants or nonimmigrants, of noncitizens who were physically present within the following countries during the 14-day period preceding their entry or attempted entry into the United States. For a full list of exceptions, please refer to the Proclamation.
  • Botswana
  • Eswatini
  • Lesotho
  • Malawi
  • Mozambique
  • Namibia
  • South Africa
  • Zimbabwe
As further provided in the Proclamation, citizens and lawful permanent residents of the United States, certain family members, and other individuals who meet specified exceptions, who have been in one of the countries listed above in the past 14 days will be allowed to enter the United States. See CDC’s Travel Assessment to learn what’s required to travel by air to the United States.

Additionally, last Friday the CDC announced New Travel Testing Requirements from all countries.

With many of the world's nations ranked as either high or very high COVID risk destinations (see map below) - and status changes happening every week - it is highly recommended that you visit the CDC's Traveler's Health Website , and continually monitor conditions at your intended destination, before departure.

As much as we'd like to believe the COVID threat is diminishing, it continues to burn its way around the globe.
