Although the UK continues to report data issues (see note below) today's update from the UKHSA breaks all previous COVID records with more than 218K cases reported over the past 24 hours. Some of this is catch-up from Wales and Northern Ireland, but even so, cases continue to rise in the UK.

Newly-reported figures of tests conducted, cases and deaths for Northern Ireland cover a 4-day period, and for Wales cover a 2-day period.
Newly-reported figures for cases in Scotland are only available at national level.
Data for deaths in Scotland have not been updated. The UK total therefore includes only newly-reported deaths in England, Northern Ireland and Wales.
Figures for cases and deaths by specimen date and date of death have been updated for England, Northern Ireland and Wales.
The following charts indicate that cases, hospitalizations, and deaths have all gone up roughly 50% over the past 7 days, but he hospitalization data is only current through Dec 27th. As hospitalizations and deaths are lagging indicators, these are expected to continue to increase for several weeks after new cases are announced.
