NHC Issues Tropical Storm Watch For South Florida

NHC 5pm Track and Warnings

#16,800

While it doesn't have a name (yet),  the National Hurricane Center has issued tropical storm warnings for South Florida as a tropical depression - the remnants of Pacific Hurricane Agatha - moves off the Yucatan peninsula and over the warm Western Gulf waters.

As conditions are slightly favorable for intensification, the NHC expects this system to become the first tropical storm of the 2022 Atlantic season before approaching the Florida coast.

This should be primarily a heavy rain event, with urban and inland flooding possible.  The 5 pm discussion forecast (below) maxes the winds out at 50 MPH, well below hurricane strength, but high  enough to pose a hazard to boats and some low lying coastal areas.

As always, residents in the forecast cone should continue to monitor the storm's progress, and be prepared to take action if additional strengthening should occur.

As always, your primary source of forecast information should always be the National Hurricane Center in Miami, Florida. These are the real experts, and the only ones you should rely on to track and forecast the storm.

If you are on Twitter, you should also follow @FEMA, @NHC_Atlantic, @NHC_Pacific and @ReadyGov and of course take direction from your local Emergency Management Office.
