During the fall the CDC usually ramps up their COCA call presentations, and this week two more webinars are scheduled, along with another next week (see Evaluating and Supporting Patients Presenting with Cardiovascular Symptoms Following COVID).
These 1-hour presentations are usually quite technical, and are of greatest interest to clinicians and healthcare providers, but also may be of interest to others. If you are unable to attend the live presentation, these (and past) webinars are always archived and available for later viewing at this LINK.
Today's webinar is scheduled for 2 pm EST.
Recommendations for Bivalent COVID-19 Booster Doses in People Ages 12 Years and Older
Overview
During this COCA Call, presenters will discuss CDC’s new guidance on bivalent COVID-19 booster doses for people ages 12 years and older, including those who are moderately or severely immunocompromised. COVID-19 vaccination provides protection against serious illness and outcomes associated with COVID-19, including emergency department or urgent care visits, hospitalizations, and death. Updated COVID-19 vaccines add an Omicron BA.4/5 spike protein component to the previous monovalent composition. These bivalent booster doses help restore protection that has waned since previous vaccination by targeting more transmissible and immune-evading variants. These boosters also broaden the spectrum of variants that the immune system is ready to respond to.

2022–2023 Recommendations for Influenza Prevention and Treatment in Children: An Update for Pediatric Providers
Overview
Influenza remains a serious threat to children due to its potential to cause severe morbidity and mortality. Vaccination is the most effective way to prevent influenza illness and associated complications, including death. Influenza vaccination remains particularly important during the COVID-19 pandemic when transmission of SARS-Co V-2 and other respiratory viruses can be high. Clinicians play a critical role in taking action to immunize children and their family members and caregivers. During this COCA Call, presenters will provide an overview of influenza prevention and treatment recommendations for the 2022–2023 season from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
