Update On Isaac

# 6507

The 5am update on T.S. Isaac is out, and the latest forecast path has South Florida under the gun in about 5 days. With the proviso that forecasts 120 hours out carry a fair degree of uncertainty, here is the latest projection.

Isaac is forecast to reach Hurricane strength before crossing the Southern tip of Haiti and the eastern part of Cuba this weekend, and depending upon its interactions with land, could retain hurricane strength when it emerges into the warm waters of the  Florida straits.

Interests along the Gulf and Altantic coasts should pay heed to the latest advisories issued by the National Hurricane Center, and should be making plans in the event that Isaac threatens.

In late May the NHC sponsored National Hurricane Preparedness Week, and you’ll find a series of videos at the link below on what to expect, and how to prepare.

And finally, a historical note.

This Friday is the 20th Anniversary of Hurricane Andrew, which destroyed more than 25,000 homes in Miami-Dade county alone.

Devastating hurricanes like Andrew are infrequent, but they do happen.  And as Florida’s SERT reminds us;

It only takes one.
