With the caveat that case counts between news sources are slightly out of sync, and the asymptomatic (but PRC positive case) in Beijing isn’t currently included in the official count, we’ve reports of 5 new cases that push the totals over the 100 mark.
China Daily is reporting 102 cases and 21 fatalities while Xinhua has the total as 101 cases and 20 deaths. (see update above)
Although we tend to focus heavily on keeping track of these cases, in truth, we know that these numbers are – at best - representative of some fraction of the total number of cases.
The proverbial `tip of the iceberg’.
Right now, we have no idea just how big, or small, the hidden portion of that iceberg might be. Perhaps we are seeing the bulk of the cases, or perhaps there are many mild cases fluing under the `radar’.
Frankly, we many not have a good answer to that until seroprevalence studies can be done.
In the absence of data certain, we can only keep track as best we can. This from Xinhua News.
