We’ve an announcement from the Saudi Ministry of Health on 3 new MERS coronavirus cases, plus Sharon Sanders at FluTrackers has picked up a media report of potentially 7 more suspected cases at a government hospital in Jeddah.

First the KSA announcement, which provides minimal details on 2 cases from Riyadh and 1 from Jeddah.

(Health) recorded injury (3) cases of Corona Pfyrus

In the context of the work of epidemiological investigation and ongoing follow-up carried out by the Ministry of Health for the virus (Corona) that causes respiratory syndrome Middle East MERS COV

Ministry announces registration for three cases of the virus, the first citizen at the age of 26 years from the province of Jeddah and works where the health sector is currently receiving treatment in intensive care.

The second case they are a citizen at the age of 77 years from the Riyadh region and suffers from several chronic diseases in stable condition and thankfully.

//The third case was a citizen at the age of 59 years of Riyadh region, and is suffering from several chronic diseases where currently receiving treatment in intensive care.

We ask God for their speedy recovery.

I would note that last week the MOH announced a 26 year-old – who was identified as a Health Worker in the media from Jeddah – was diagnosed with MERS.  Whether this is a duplicate report, or the 2nd 26-year old in a week from Jeddah is up for debate.

Moving on . . .

We’ve a media report (see Flutrackers thread) –  machine translated from Arabic – that describes 7 healthcare workers at a hospital in Jeddah who are suspected of being infected with the MERS virus.   Although this report is several hours old, I haven’t been able to find any other corroborating stories.

It should be noted that media reports such as these – while they sometimes provide early notice of cases - should be taken with a sizable `grain of salt’, as we’ve seen denials issued by the Saudi MOH in the past regarding these sorts of media reports. .

Also, I would note that today’s report appears to be from a different hospital than had reported a HCW infected with MERS a week ago.
