Saudi MOH Announces 18 New MERS Cases

After a drop off in the number of cases reported yesterday (n=7), today we are once again back in the double-digits with 18 new MERS cases announced by the KSA Ministry of Health. 

 

Cases are reported in Jeddah ( 7 ), Riyadh (5), Mecca (4), and Medina (2).  Ages range from 13 to 82, and none are described as healthcare workers.

 

UPDATE:   My Thanks to @HelenBranswell and Almonther Hershan  for relaying the information on Twitter that in the Arabic version of today’s update, the 28 and 32 year old cases from Mecca are described as hospital workers.  This information was not included in the English release below:

The total number of deaths: 4 cases – (2 cases were recorded over the past 24 hours and other 2 cases were previously recorded)

Overview of the Health Status of the Cases:

  • 6 cases haven’t developed any symptoms.
  • 5 stable hospitalized cases, receiving the proper treatment.
  • 5 cases in Intensive Care
  • 2 deaths

Health Situation of the Cases in Detail:
In Riyadh:

  • 40 year old woman. She has been in contact with a confirmed case and has not developed any symptoms.
  • 13 year old boy, suffering from Asthma. He developed respiratory symptoms visited a government hospital. His condition has improved and has not developed any symptoms.
  • 71 year old woman, suffering from Cancer. She had a high fever, respiratory symptoms, and  inflammation of the urethra and was admitted to a government hospital on 27/3/2014. She has been in contact with a confirmed case. Now, she is being treated in the ICU.
  • 82 year old man, suffering from diabetes, high blood pressure, and lung disease. He displayed respiratory failure on 14/4/2014 and was admitted to a government hospital. On 26/4/2014 he showed respiratory symptoms. Now, he is being treated in the ICU. He has been in contact with a confirmed case.
  • 66 year old woman suffering from diabetes. She displayed respiratory symptoms on 24/4/2014. She was admitted to a government hospital on 29/4/2014. Now, she is being treated in the ICU.

In Jeddah:

  • 56 year old man, suffering from diabetes and high blood pressure. He displayed respiratory symptoms on 21/4/2014. He was admitted to a government hospital on 24/4/2014. Now, his condition is stable.
  • 70 year old man, suffering from diabetes and high blood pressure. He displayed respiratory symptoms on 30/4/2014 and was admitted to a government hospital. Now, his condition is stable.
  • 55 year old man, suffering from diabetes. He displayed respiratory symptoms on 23/4/2014. He was admitted to a private hospital. Now, his condition is stable.
  • 37 year old man. He has been in contact with a confirmed case and has not developed any symptoms.
  • 55 year old woman. She displayed respiratory symptoms on 29/4/2014, she was admitted to National Guard hospital. Now, her condition is stable.
  • 25 year old man. He displayed respiratory symptoms on 24/4/2014. He was admitted to a government hospital on 27/4/2014. He passed away on 30/4/2014.
  • 53 year old man. He has been in contact with a confirmed case and has not developed any symptoms.

In Makkah:

  • 28 year old man. He has been in contact with a confirmed case and has not developed any symptoms.
  • 32 year old man. He has been in contact with a confirmed case. He displayed mild symptoms and was admitted to a government hospital on 29/4/2014. Then, he was transferred to another government hospital in Jeddah.
  • 69 year old woman, suffering from Tuberculosis and Anemia. She displayed weakness of heart muscle. She was admitted to a government hospital on 5/3/2014. She displayed respiratory symptoms on 26/4/2014. Then, she passed away on 29/4/2014.
  • 28 year old woman. She has been in contact with a confirmed case and has not developed any symptoms.

In Al Madina Al Munawara:

  • 60 year old man suffering from diabetes and heart disease. He displayed respiratory symptoms on 30/4/2014. He was admitted to a government hospital. Now, he is being treated in the ICU.
  • 47 year old man. On 22/4/2014, he was admitted to a government hospital in Jeddah and diagnosed with kidney failure. He had high fever and vomiting on 26/4/2014. Now, he is being treated in the ICU.

Previous deaths:

  • 90 year old man, passed away on 25/4/2014 in Jeddah, May Allah have mercy upon him.
  • 28 year old woman, passed away on 25/4/2014 in Jeddah, May Allah have mercy upon her.
