The two areas of suspicion I mentioned in yesterday's blog are looking a little better organized, and now each have a 70% chance of developing into a tropical system (depression/storm/hurricane) over the next 5 days.
While major hurricanes are rare in June, they aren't entirely unheard of, so residents along the western and north-central Gulf coasts should closely monitor the situation. If you haven't already, now is a good time to pay a visit to NOAA's Weather-Ready Nation Hurricane Preparedness Week 2017 web page, and decide what you need to do now to keep you, your family, and your property safe during the coming tropical season.
If you are on Twitter, I highly recommend following @FEMA, @NHC_Atlantic, @NHC_Pacific and @ReadyGov.
