For the second time in less than 8 hours (see China: MOA Reports A 3rd ASF Outbreak In Anhui Province) China's Ministry of Agriculture has announced a new outbreak of African Swine Fever - this time in Yixing City, Jiangsu Province.
This is the second outbreak announced from Jiangsu Province, which reported an outbreak in Lianyungang City on August 19th.  Yixing City, is located more than 200 to the south.
The statement from China's MOH reads:

The Information Office of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs was released on September 3, and an epidemic of pigs and African pigs occurred in Yixing City, Wuxi City, Jiangsu Province.

On September 3, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Areas received a report from the China Animal Disease Prevention and Control Center and was diagnosed by the China Center for Animal Health and Epidemiology (National Center for Animal Disease Research). A case of African piglets occurred in a farmer in Yixing City, Wuxi City, Jiangsu Province. In the epidemic situation, the farmer kept 97 pigs, 12 diseases and 9 deaths.

Immediately after the outbreak, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs sent a steering group to Jiangsu Province. The local government has started the emergency response mechanism as required, and adopted measures such as blockade, culling, harmless treatment, disinfection, etc., to treat all the sick and culled pigs harmlessly. At the same time, all live pigs and susceptible animals and products are prohibited from entering or leaving the blockade. At present, the epidemic has been effectively disposed of.

This is the 8th outbreak since China acknowledged the arrival of ASF in early August, and the 4th announced since last Thursday.

Despite the `boiler plate' that `At present, the epidemic has been effectively disposed of.', the events of the past couple of days suggest there's a lot more to come.
