China meanwhile, has only announced one outbreak in the past week (in Guangxi Province), although they announced the arrests of hundreds of people for crimes Related to African Swine Fever last weekend.
Chinese social media, and the dissident press, continue to feature reports and pictures of dead pigs `死猪' being dumped or destroyed, but verification is all but impossible. It does seem likely, however, that between the high rate of ASF virus detection in Chinese pork products, China's nearly 1,000 arrests for the illegal sale and transport of infected pigs, and the speed at which we are seeing the virus sweep across Vietnam, that the relatively small number outbreaks reported by China's MOA over the past two months likely under-represents the the ASF situation on the ground in China.
