Although China, Vietnam, and a host of other Asian nations are furiously combating African Swine Fever (ASF), Japan continues to wage war against Classical Swine Fever (CSF), which re-appeared last September after an absence of 26 years.
CSF, while similar in appearance and impact to African Swine Fever (ASF), is caused by a different virus. Both, however, are highly contagious among pigs, and can be economically devastating for pork producers, but neither disease poses a direct human health threat. While it took 164 days for Japan to report their first 10 farm outbreaks, we've seen that pace more than double since March, with 17 new outbreaks in the past 109 days.
The OIE has similarly reported a tripling in the number of infected wild boar (rising from 218 in March to 655 today) detected in Gifu and Aichi Prefectures.Today's (translated) announcement from Japan's MAFF, after which I'll have a postscript:

On a related topic, I've been unable to access China's MOA website for the past 3 days (using 2 different computers, and even trying through a VPN), without success. I just checked IsItDownRightNow and they report the MOA server is not responding.
China's CDC, China.gov, and several other Chinese government websites I checked, are working. So far I've not seen any explanation for this outage.
