South Korea: MAFRA Confirms 14th ASF Outbreak

After 5 days without reporting a new outbreak, over night MAFRA announced a 14th farm outbreak of African Swine Fever - this time in Yeoncheon - once again very near the North Korean border.

- Order to suspend the yeoncheon county area for 48 hours -

□ Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Livestock And Food (Minister Kim Hyun-soo, "Ministry of Agriculture and Food") announced on Wednesday, October 9 that the results of an overhaul of the suspected sax report of a pig farm (4,000 breeding) in Yeoncheon County, Gyeonggi Province, located in the northern central management area of Gyeonggi Province, were confirmed today (10.9 days) as African pig fever ("ASF").

※ Those who violate the Temporary Suspension Order shall be imprisoned for up to one year or fined up to KRW 10 million in accordance with Article 57 of the Livestock Infectious Disease Prevention Act.
○ During the temporary suspension period, pig farms and livestock-related facilities and vehicles in yeoncheon county, Gyeonggi Province, will be cleaned, cleaned and disinfected.

○However, the movement of livestock transport vehicles for slaughterhouse shipments in order to complete the execution and slaughter of pigs in effect in yeoncheon county area was exempt from the temporary suspension order.

Despite persistent reports and rumors to the contrary, North Korea has been silent regarding their ASF situation since their first (and only) OIE Notification last May, and China hasn't `officially' reported an outbreak in more than 6 weeks.
