Japan MAFF: Confirmation Of 51st Farm Outbreak Of CSF (Aichi)

#14,583

After a busy spring and summer, we've seen a decided drop off in reported outbreaks of Classical Swine Fever (CSF) over the past few months from Japan.  The last report was nearly a month ago (see  Japan MAFF Confirms 50th Farm Outbreak Of Classical Swine Fever (Aichi Prefecture).
As with African Swine Fever (ASF), neither pose a direct threat to human health, although both can be devastating to the swine industry.
Unlike ASF, there is a vaccine against CSF, and just over two months ago Japan amended their Specific Infections Livestock Disease Control Guidelines for CSF to allow the vaccination of  domestic pigs in designated prefectures.
The Vaccination of domestic pigs is now practiced in the following prefectures; Gunma, Toyama, Ishikawa, Fukui, Nagano, Gifu, Aichi, Mie, Shiga, Saitama, Shizuoka and Yamanashi.
Details on the latest farm outbreak - the 45th of 2019 - follow:
